RTI Selected as Lead Sponsor for Interoperable Open Architecture 2011

RTI Asked to Present on Achieving System-of-Systems Interoperability in Open-Architecture Defense Procurement

SUNNYVALE, Calif.—Sept 13, 2011—Real-Time Innovations (RTI), The Global Leader in DDS, today announced that it has been selected as lead sponsor for the upcoming Interoperable Open Architecture 2011, which takes place October 26-28, 2011, at the Le Méridien Piccadilly in London, U.K. This event brings together global leaders in defense procurement strategy from the U.K. Ministry of Defence (MOD), U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), French Direction Générale de l'Armement (DGA), Canadian Department of National Defence (DND), the European Defence Agency (EDA), NATO and other defense organizations. The purpose is to share ideas on how to create a more efficient procurement process for defense systems.

The Interoperable Open Architecture conference, presented by the International Quality and Productivity Center (IQPC) and promoted by Defence iQ, offers delegates the opportunity to explore the recent shift in the way defense procurement is taking place. Increasingly, procurement agencies such as the U.S. DoD and U.K. MOD are mandating the use of data-centric integration strategies in open architecture to achieve systems-level interoperability, thereby creating a more open and competitive procurement environment. By specifying a common architecture across a multitude of similar platforms, defense agencies are greatly reducing through-life maintenance and modification costs while increasing opportunities for innovation. The intent is to provide systems to the military that are more rapidly adaptable to changing warfighter conditions.

"As budgetary issues continue to pose a challenge for the military, defense procurement agencies must reconsider current procurement strategies. With respect to combat-active armed forces, it is becoming increasingly difficult to integrate legacy systems and future procurement without compromising ongoing operations. This issue is affecting the war fighter and impacting the defense industry as a whole as well," says Steven Webb, vice president of Aerospace, Defence and Security at Frost & Sullivan. "By driving the adoption of an architecture based on open standards and a data-centric method of integration, not only are defense procurement agencies thinking smart about their current and future operational strategies, but they are also driving innovation in development and promoting competition among suppliers."

As lead sponsor and host, RTI will be presenting a paper on proven open-architecture strategies for systems integration and participating in a panel discussion exploring the future of defense procurement strategy. For additional information on RTI and interoperable architecture, please go to http://www.rti.com/industries/open-architecture.html.

The event's agenda is designed to encourage idea-sharing among attendees, allowing delegates to leave with new strategies and best practices they can implement at their organizations. To learn more about Interoperable Open Architecture 2011, please visit http://www.ioaevent.com.
