RTI Connext DDS has several distinct features for secure and high-assurance communications. In addition, RTI ecosystem partners provide information assurance solutions that help complete the story. Along with its ongoing contributions to industry security standards organizations, RTI has continuous research and development engineering efforts underway that keep it at the forefront of secure real-time messaging technology. RTI can provide solutions for ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability (the "CIA triad") of real-time data distribution, along with non-repudiation of transactional information.
Your applications may run on a secured network under your control—or they may not. You first need to ensure that the applications running on your system – the producers and consumers of information – are legitimate and authorized to publish and subscribe. If your communications can potentially be intercepted by third parties, you also need to make sure that the contents of that communication will remain private.
The RTI Secure WAN Transport allows Connext DDS applications to communicate securely over local and Wide Area Networks (WANs) such as the Internet. The RTI Secure WAN Transport is an optional set of transport plug-ins that optionally enables firewall and NAT traversal, secure message and data exchange, and channel and participant authorization.
The Secure WAN Transport is based on proven SSL/TLS technology using industry standard X.509 certificates for authentication and confidentiality. RSA encryption using public key infrastructure (PKI) ensures that participants in your network are who they say they are and all data is secured en-route.
For applications with high assurance and fault tolerance requirements, Connext DDS supports operating environments such as Wind River VxWorks MILS, Green Hills Integrity, and LynxOS-SE. Additionally, Connext DDS continues to support traditional MLS operating systems such as Solaris with Trusted Extensions and SELinux.
In conjunction with Tresys Technology, the leader in Security Enhanced Linux (SELinux), RTI has extended its popular Architecture Study with in-depth secure system design analysis. The Tresys/RTI Security Architecture Assessment is designed to help you leverage both middleware and security expertise at the start of your project, to reduce risk and ensure optimal design for a secure distributed system.
ObjectSecurity is an innovator in the area of model-driven security. Their primary focus is simplified security management and secure IT application integration. They specialize in security for Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), enterprise security policy management, secure middleware, and modeling/simulation. ObjectSecurity's core product is OpenPMF, the leading and award-winning "model-driven security" security policy management solution. RTI has collaborated with ObjectSecurity on the integration of OpenPMF with RTI Data Distribution Service for security policy management.
RTI continues to enhance the robust security of its products and to conduct research in several areas, including security model refinement, authentication, domain partitioning, secure routing, metadata tagging/labeling, vulnerability analysis, and real-time intrusion detection.
